18 Hole Golf Course Renovation

1924 Seth Raynor

GENERAL INFORMATION

Minnesota Valley Country Club (MVCC) is an existing private 18 hole golf course situated above the Minnesota River Valley in Bloomington, Minnesota. The course was constructed in
1924 and is one of three Seth Raynor layouts in Minnesota. Prior to this construction project, the golf course irrigation pond had limited storage capacity with drainage issues in the adjacent low areas. In keeping with their long range master plan, MVCC commissioned Norby to assess options for increasing irrigation storage, improving drainage & addressing turf quality issues.

We prepared plans for a new pond connected to the existing irrigation pond to expand capacity. The excess soil was used to raise the adjacent fairway thereby eliminating the drainage problem. Herfort Norby also prepared sketches and a rendered plan of the proposed pond expansion used to seek approval from the membership. Herfort Norby assisted MVCC with estimating quantities, soliciting competitive bids. The overall project included expanding the existing irrigation pond, the construction of the new pond, regrading of the adjacent fairway, renovating two sets of tees and installing six new bunkers.

PROJECT PROFILE

Our responsibilities included obtaining base information, preparation of grading plans and concept sketches of proposed improvements and observation of the work during construction. Herfort Norby worked with the Green Committee, Board of Directors and the clubs staff to gain membership approval and see the project through to a successful conclusion with minimal disruption to play during construction.
